California Elimination of Bias and Cultural Competency for Appraisers
This course provides an in-depth examination of the concept of bias. A minimum of two hours of anti-bias training will be provided, in accordance with California Assembly Bill 948. The course will list and provide examples of many different types of bias, paying particular attention to the types of biases that are often unintended and may potentially occur in real property valuations. Actions that an appraiser can take to avoid bias appraisal development and reporting will be highlighted. The current edition of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) will be briefly reviewed for guidance relating to bias and discrimination.
Finally, this course will provide a minimum of one hour on the topic of cultural competency, which is required for all California appraisers. This cultural competency section includes an overview of the ongoing struggle for fairness and equity in housing.
