1. What are the requirements for getting your appraisal license online in New York?

Qualifying education (QE) requirements

Licensees must complete a total of 150 QE hours consisting of the following courses, which are now available online at McKissock.com:

AQB Supervisor/Trainee course requirement

Both the Trainee Appraiser and Supervisory Appraiser shall be required to complete a course that, at minimum, complies with the specifications for course content established by the AQB. The course must be completed by the Trainee Appraiser prior to obtaining a Trainee Appraiser credential, and completed by the Supervisory Appraiser prior to supervising a Trainee Appraiser.

2. Is there any part of the New York appraisal licensing process that still has to be done in person?

Upon the completion of each course, you will be required to complete a proctored exam. This exam must be scheduled by the school and taken live at a facility approved by the New York Department of State.

3. What other options are available for getting licensed in New York, besides online licensing?

Appraisal licensees can still complete live courses (i.e., classroom courses) in order to obtain a license. Live courses used to be required for all New York appraisal licensees; however, effective February 2018, online courses are now officially allowed as well.

4. Is online appraisal licensing available in other states, too?

Yes! Most states allow online qualifying education. There are only a small handful of states that require some or all classes to be completed in a live classroom.
