OC: Wood Destroying Organisms
In this course, we address the regulatory requirements or licensing/certification for identifying/inspecting/reporting for wood destroying organisms (WDOs), defined as termites, carpenter ants, and wood-boring beetles, and to a lesser degree wood-boring bees. Home and WDO inspectors are the first line of defense in identifying signs of wood-destroying organisms and providing recommendations for treatment and prevention.
Most states require some level of licensing/certification to perform a WDO inspection. Additionally, there can be separate training and licensing/certification requirements for “inspectors” and “treatment applicators.” This can vary from state to state and sometimes county to county. The information in this course will attempt to deconflict some of these requirements and address regulatory controls as they apply to the inspector.
The course does not take the place of any required state guidelines for licensing/certification training requirements. Course participants must always contact the appropriate controlling authorities for proper licensing/certification for their location.
If you do not currently offer WDO inspections in the current business model, this course will provide the basics relating to types, identification, and reporting methods to get you on your way. It provides seed information as you prepare to add WDO inspection to your list of home inspection services
