Hydrography is the science of measuring and describing the topographical features and the aquatic environment beneath the surface of a body of water. These subsurface features affect bridge scour, flood mitigation, erosion control and siltation transport, maritime navigation, marine construction, dredging, offshore oil exploration/offshore oil drilling and many other activities. Bathymetry is the study of the beds, or the floors, of oceans, seas, rivers, streams, and lakes. This course is designed to provide an overview of hydrographic and bathymetric surveying and its many applications, as well as discuss the relevance of such surveys to environmental and civil engineering projects both in and around bodies of water.
