alternative energy technologies. Topics covered include: Solar, wind,
biological fuels, hydrokinetic and marine energy, as well as fuel cells, biohydrogen,
coal gasification, and alternate nuclear technologies.
Constructed Wetlands for Wastewater Treatment
This
course focuses on the use of constructed wetlands used to treat wastewater from
confined livestock and agricultural operations. It addresses the three most common
types of waste treatment wetlands (SF, SSF, and FAP), the treatment processes, the
role of vegetation in the treatment, the benefits and concerns of using CW’s,
planning and design considerations, as well as procedural, operational, and
maintenance requirements.
Design and Maintenance of Gravel Roads
This eight-hour engineering course addresses the maintenance and design of gravel roads. Unpaved surfaces make up a sizable percentage of both domestic roads, as well as roads abroad; therefore, the administration and maintenance of these road systems can be an enormous task. Most of the maintenance duties of these road systems fall on local authorities, although much of the remaining responsibilities lie with state highway agencies.
This course provides an overview of the administration, maintenance and design, reshaping and rehabilitation, and construction considerations of gravel roadway systems. Special topics include drainage, erosion and control, windrows, superelevation, as well as other special areas of concern.
Fundamentals of Power Distribution
This course is an introduction to the basic principles,
major equipment, protection and control systems relating to high-voltage power
distribution and transmission. In this course, you will learn the basics in
constructing and maintaining a power transmission and distribution system, as
well as various components of the system.
Rural Ponds: Planning and Design
This
is an introductory course on the design, planning, and construction of rural
pond systems. This course describes embankment and excavated ponds, as well as outlines
the requirements for building each type of pond.
