Kansas Real Estate Education Requirements

  1. 1. Comply with the General Kansas Real Estate License Requirements:
    • Be at least 18 years old in order to get licensed in Kansas
    • Have a high school diploma or GED in order to get licensed in Kansas
  2. 2. Complete 60 hours of courses - Enroll Today
    • Complete a 30-hour Principles of Real Estate course.
    • Complete a 30-hour Kansas Practice Course. This applies to both residents and non-residents. The certificate from this course must be filed within six months of course completion.
    • If you are eligible for licensure through requirements met in another jurisdiction, then the Principles of Real Estate pre-license course isn't required.
  3. 3. Pass a background check
    • Applicants must request KBI/FBI background check form (REL-150) from the Kansas Real Estate Commission.
  4. 4. Take the Kansas real estate license exam
    • Pass both the general and state sections of the Kansas real estate Licensing Exam within 12 months of completing your Kansas Practice course. After passing your exam, you will receive an Application for License.
  5. 5. File your Kansas real estate license application. The Application for License must be filed within either:
    • Six months of the exam pass date. If sections were passed on different dates, the earlier date starts the clock.
    • Six months of the earliest document date (ex.: Certificates, Reports, etc.)

How can a non-resident get a real estate license in Kansas?

Out-of-state applicants must meet the following requirements to get Kansas real estate license:
  • You must hold a current real estate license in your resident state equivalent to the level for which you are applying in Kansas.
  • Effective March 8, 2007, all reciprocity agreements were cancelled. Applicants must pass the Kansas portion of the licensure exam for salespersons.
  • Applicants who hold a current salesperson’s license in another jurisdiction do not have to complete Kansas’ 30-hour pre-license course and the national portion of the examination if the applicant has completed a course and examination for a jurisdiction the Commission has determined to have equivalent requirements.
  • Your Application must be signed by a broker with an active Kansas broker’s license.
  • You must file a Nonresident Form (REL-110) with your Application.
