How to Renew Your Colorado Appraisal License

Here’s an overview of the steps to renew your Colorado appraisal license. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the Colorado Board of Real Estate Appraisers.

Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines

In Colorado, an initial appraisal license is valid through December 31 of the year of issuance. Appraisers of all license levels who renew their credential will be issued a 2-year license. The renewal period is from November 15 to December 31 of each year prior to the expiration date listed on your license.

Step 2: Complete CE Requirements

Colorado real estate appraisers must complete 28 hours of state-approved continuing education every 2 years, including:

Attention initial licensees: If your initial license was issued before July 1 of any year, you will need to complete 14 hours of continuing education by December 31.

Attention 3-year license holders: Colorado appraisers renewing a 3-year license must complete 42 hours of continuing education.

Note: Potential students are advised to check with the appropriate Colorado Regulatory Agencies to confirm that completion of courses offered by McKissock will satisfy the requirements for initial or renewal education.

Step 3: Apply for Renewal

Apply for license renewal using the Colorado Division of Real Estate’s online licensing portal. You will need to provide CE course certificates as proof of completion. Fees may apply.

Important: Verify all CE requirements with the Colorado Board of Real Estate Appraisers. If you hold appraisal licenses in multiple states, please make sure to check each state’s requirements.
