How to Renew Your Washington DC Appraisal License

Here’s a look at the steps to renew your Washington DC appraisal license. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the District of Columbia Board of Real Estate Appraisers (DCBREA).

Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines

Washington DC real estate appraisers must renew their licenses every 2 years. Licenses expire on February 28 of even-numbered years. Check the expiration date printed on your license to confirm.

Step 2: Complete CE Requirements

Washington DC appraisers are required to complete 28 hours of Board-approved continuing education every 2 years, including:

Attention new licensees: If you were licensed 185 days or less from the renewal date, you do not need to complete any continuing education for that cycle. If you were licensed during the last 12 months of a license cycle, but more than 185 days before the renewal date, you must complete 14 hours of CE for that license cycle.

Step 3: Apply for Renewal

Apply for license renewal online using the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) professional licensing portal. You will need to provide proof of CE course completion. Fees may apply.

Important: Verify all CE requirements with the DC Board of Real Estate Appraisers. If you hold appraisal licenses in multiple states, please be sure to check each state’s requirements.
