Iowa Appraisal License Renewal
How to Renew Your Iowa Appraisal License
The steps to renew your Iowa appraisal license are outlined below. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the Iowa Real Estate Appraiser Examining Board.
Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines
Iowa appraisers must renew their licenses every 2 years by June 30. Your license may expire in the even-numbered year or the odd-numbered year, depending on your last name (A–K even; L–Z odd). Please check the expiration date printed on your license to confirm.
You will receive a renewal notice via email approximately 45 days before your license expiration date.
Step 2: Complete CE Requirements
Iowa real estate appraisers are required to take 28 hours of state-approved continuing education every 2 years, including:
- 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course
- Valuation Bias & Fair Housing CE Course
- State-approved CE course electives
Attention new licensees: If your license was issued 185 to 365 days prior to renewal, you must report 14 hours of CE for that renewal cycle, including the most recent 7-hour National USPAP Update. If your license was issued less than 185 days prior to renewal, you do not need to report any CE for that renewal cycle.
Step 3: Apply for Renewal
Apply for license renewal using the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) online licensing portal. You will need to upload your CE course completion certificates and pay a renewal fee.
Important: Verify all CE requirements with the Iowa Real Estate Appraiser Examining Board. If you hold appraisal licenses in multiple states, please be sure to check each state’s requirements.
