How to Renew Your Maryland Appraisal License 

The steps to renew your Maryland appraisal license are outlined below. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the Maryland Commission of Real Estate Appraisers. 

Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines  

In the state of Maryland, appraisers must renew their licenses every 3 years. Licenses expire on the third anniversary of the date of issuance. Check the expiration date printed on your license to confirm your renewal deadline.

Please note that all 42 CE credit hours must be completed in full before you submit your renewal application. 

Important: Verify all CE requirements with the Maryland Commission of Real Estate Appraisers. If you hold appraisal licenses in multiple states, you will need to check each state’s requirements. 


Maryland License Renewal (42 hours) – State CE Requirements

Maryland Appraisers are required to obtain 42 continuing education hours every 36 months. The 7-hour National USPAP Course is required every 2 years.

Effective November 1, 2023, any currently licensed appraiser, certified appraiser, and appraiser trainee, applying for license or certificate renewal shall successfully complete during the preceding 3-year license cycle a minimum of 3 hours of appraisal education related to racial discrimination and implicit bias.

Effective 1/1/2026
To comply with the 2026 Criteria appraisers will be required to complete a course that meets the content requirements of the Valuation Bias & Fair Housing Laws and Regulations Outline, every two calendar years.

  • The first time an appraiser completes the continuing education requirement for this course, the course length must be seven (7) hours. If an appraiser successfully completed a seven (7) hour (plus 1 hour exam) course as part of their qualifying education, they have met this requirement.
  • Every two calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least four (4) hours.

Note: The Valuation Bias & Fair Housing course will satisfy the 3 hours of appraisal education related to racial discrimination and implicit bias requirement. 

Online Limitations

The Maryland Commission of Real Estate Appraisers, Appraisal Management Companies and Home Inspectors may grant a licensee or certificate holder no more than 8 hours of credit for instruction per day for courses of appraisal continuing education.
