How to Renew Your West Virginia Appraisal License 

Here’s a brief overview of the steps to renew your West Virginia appraisal license. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the West Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Board. 

Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines  

In West Virginia, real estate appraisers must renew their licenses annually by September 30. Please check the expiration date printed on your license to confirm. 

Continuing education is also due annually by September 30. However, please note that the most recent 7-hour USPAP Update Course must be completed within 8 months of a new cycle. 

Step 2: Complete CE Requirements  

West Virginia real estate appraisers must complete at least 14 hours of Board-approved continuing education every year, including:

Step 3: Apply for Renewal  

Apply for license renewal using the West Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board’s online licensing portal. You must pay a renewal fee and submit copies of your CE course certificates with your application.

West Virginia License Renewal (14 hours) – State CE Requirements

West Virginia Appraisers are required to complete 14 continuing education hours every 12 months; including a mandatory 7 hours of National USPAP Update or Equivalent every two years. The USPAP update course must be taken within eight (8) months of a newly effective cycle.

To comply with the 2026 Criteria appraisers will be required to complete a course that meets the content requirements of the Valuation Bias & Fair Housing Laws and Regulations Outline, every two calendar years.

  • The first time an appraiser completes the continuing education requirement for this course, the course length must be seven (7) hours. If an appraiser successfully completed a seven (7) hour (plus 1 hour exam) course as part of their qualifying education, they have met this requirement.
  • Every two calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least four (4) hours
