Alabama Real Estate Education Requirements

The information below is a summary of the minimum requirements set forth by the Alabama Real Estate Commission. For a more detailed requirements breakdown, please see the board's site.

Hours Required by the Alabama Real Estate Commission: 15 hours.

    o3-hour Risk Management: Initial Contact to Accepted Offer course
    o3-hour Mandatory Broker CE Course

Salesperson Post-Licensure Education Requirement: Completion of the 30-hour post license course is due within the first six months of licensure for active licensees, and within one year for inactive licensees. Click here for the post licensing course. Note: There is no post license requirement for Brokers.

Course Hours Daily Limit: AREC allows a maximum of nine (9) continuing education hours to be earned on any one calendar day.

Final Exam: While students are required to demonstrate mastery of the content at certain intervals of the course, there is no passing score requirement for the final exam.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary but are generally 6 months after the date of enrollment. AREC requires that all online courses be completed within one year from the date of enrollment.

Certificate: With few exceptions, online course completion certificates are available for download at course conclusion and posted directly to your student dashboard. Certificates are not submitted to AREC during renewal but should be kept for your records.  

Online Limitations

There is no limit to the number of CE hours that may be completed online.

Rosters are sent electronically each business day. Once a license is renewed, course credit gets moved to the "Archive" section associated with the licensee's record. 

We must submit all AL real estate CE course credit to the Alabama Real Estate Commission before October 1. Therefore, all AL real estate CE courses must be completed by September 30th at 10 pm EST. Any courses completed after that date may not be reported prior to the deadline resulting in an inactive license which will require a license activation fee after the course credit has been submitted.
