Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
To maintain an active license, the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC) requires all real estate licensees to complete 8 hours of continuing education (CE) annually. This includes:
• Update Requirements: 4 hours of General Update (GENUP) for most licensees or 4 hours of Broker-in-Charge Update (BICUP) for brokers-in-charge
• Elective: 4 hours of NC real estate CE courses required for all licensees
The deadline to complete your CE is June 10. Please note: There is a “blackout period” between June 10 and June 30, during which no CE can be taken.
Yes, online CE courses are accepted in North Carolina as long as they are offered by NCREC-approved education providers like McKissock. While the Update courses (GENUP/BICUP) must often be taken in a synchronous (live) format, your 4-hour elective requirement can be conveniently completed through our self-paced online courses.
We offer a wide range of NCREC-approved elective courses designed to enhance your career. Popular topics include:
• Agency law
• Real estate investing
• Real property appraisals
• Market cycles and trends
Renewal is a multi-step process:
• Complete your CE: Finish your 8 hours of CE by the June 10 deadline.
• Log in to NCREC: Visit the NCREC website to verify your credits have posted.
• Pay the Fee: Submit your renewal application and fee between May 15 and June 30.
Pro Tip: Don’t wait until the last minute! Complete your courses early to ensure credits are reported before the blackout period begins.
