What are the CE requirements for South Dakota real estate agents?

South Dakota real estate agents must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years to maintain an active license, as required by the South Dakota Real Estate Commission (SDREC).

How often must CE be completed in South Dakota?

Continuing education must be completed biennially—every two years—based on the license renewal cycle. Licensees must meet CE requirements during each two-year period to remain in good standing.

Are online CE courses accepted in SD?

Yes, online CE courses are accepted in South Dakota, as long as they are offered by SDREC-approved education providers. Online CE is a flexible, Commission-approved option for license renewal.

What are the mandatory course topics for SD licensees?

The SDREC requires that 12 of the 24 CE hours cover mandatory topics, which may include real estate law updates, contracts, ethics, fair housing, and trust accounts. The remaining 12 hours may be completed through approved elective courses.

When is the CE deadline in South Dakota?

The CE completion deadline is every two years by November 30. Licensees must have all CE hours completed and reported by this date to renew their license by the December 31 expiration.
