Maine Appraisal License Renewal
How to Renew Your Maine Appraisal License
These are the general steps to renew your Maine appraisal license. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the Maine Board of Real Estate Appraisers.
Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines
In Maine, real estate appraiser licenses expire annually on December 31 and must be renewed to remain active. Continuing education is due every year by December 31.
Step 2: Complete CE Requirements
Maine real estate appraisers must complete and submit 14 hours of Board-approved continuing education every year, including:
- 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course (even-numbered years only)
- Valuation Bias & Fair Housing CE Course (even-numbered years only)
- State-approved CE course electives
Please note: As part of the 14 hours of required continuing education, the 7-hour USPAP Update Course and the Valuation Bias & Fair Housing CE Course are required once every two years during the even-numbered year.
Step 3: Apply for Renewal
You will receive a renewal notice via email around November 1. Apply for license renewal using the Board’s online licensing portal. Fees may apply.
All CE courses must be completed before you submit your renewal application. Make sure you have proof of CE course completion on hand, but do not submit your completion certificates to the Board unless you have been audited.
Important: Verify all CE requirements with the Maine Board of Real Estate Appraisers. If you hold appraisal licenses in multiple states, you will need to check each state’s requirements.

Continuing Education Requirements in Even-Numbered Years
- 7-Hour National USPAP Continuing Education Course
- The National USPAP Continuing Education Course is required every two years during the EVEN year. USPAP courses completed during an odd year will count only for CE credit and not towards the USPAP course requirement.
- Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations Course – Effective 1/1/2026
- The first time an appraiser completes the continuing education requirement for this course, the course length must be seven (7) hours. If an appraiser successfully completed a seven (7) hour (plus 1 hour exam) course as part of their qualifying education, they have met this requirement.
- Every two calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least four (4) hours.
