How to Renew Your Puerto Rico Appraisal License
Here are the general steps to renew your Puerto Rico appraisal license. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the Puerto Rico Board of Examiners of Professional Real Estate Appraisers.
Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines
In Puerto Rico, real estate appraisers must renew their licenses every 4 years. Please check the expiration date printed on your license. You must submit your application for renewal at least 90 days before the expiration date.
Step 2: Complete CE Requirements
Puerto Rico real estate appraisers must complete 56 hours of Board-approved continuing education every 4 years, including:
- 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course (must be completed every 2 years, twice per renewal cycle)
- Valuation Bias & Fair Housing CE Course (must be completed every 2 years, twice per renewal cycle)
- 7-Hour Puerto Rico Laws and Regulations
- Board-approved CE course electives
Step 3: Apply for Renewal
Apply for license renewal with the Puerto Rico Board of Examiners of Professional Real Estate Appraisers. You must submit your application for renewal at least 90 days prior to your license expiration date.
Important: Verify all CE requirements with the Puerto Rico Board of Examiners of Professional Real Estate Appraisers. If you hold appraisal licenses in multiple states or territories, please make sure to check each one’s requirements.
Puerto Rico License Renewal (56 hours) – State CE Requirements

The applicant must submit his application for renewal with no less than ninety (90) days prior to the expiry date.
Required to be taken within the renewal cycle is, two (2) 7hr USPAP update courses, the Puerto Rico Laws and Regulations Course (no more than four years), and the remaining 42 hours of continuing education.
Effective 1/1/2026
To comply with the 2026 Criteria appraisers will be required to complete a course that meets the content requirements of the Valuation Bias & Fair Housing Laws and Regulations Outline, every two calendar years.
- The first time an appraiser completes the continuing education requirement for this course, the course length must be seven (7) hours. If an appraiser successfully completed a seven (7) hour (plus 1 hour exam) course as part of their qualifying education, they have met this requirement.
- Every two calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least four (4) hours
