How to Renew Your Rhode Island Appraisal License 

Here are the basic steps to renew your Rhode Island appraisal license. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the Rhode Island Real Estate Appraisal Board. 

Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines  

In Rhode Island, real estate appraisers must renew their licenses every 2 years. Please check the expiration date printed on your license to confirm your renewal deadline.

Apply for license renewal using the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation’s online licensing portal. You will need to pay a renewal fee and provide CE course completion certificates.

Rhode Island Appraisers are required to complete 28 continuing education hours every 24 months including the National USPAP Update Course.

To comply with the 2026 Criteria appraisers will be required to complete a course that meets the content requirements of the Valuation Bias & Fair Housing Laws and Regulations Outline, every two calendar years.

  • The first time an appraiser completes the continuing education requirement for this course, the course length must be seven (7) hours. If an appraiser successfully completed a seven (7) hour (plus 1 hour exam) course as part of their qualifying education, they have met this requirement.
  • Every two calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least four (4) hours
