How to Renew Your Vermont Trainee Appraiser License
Here’s an overview of the renewal steps for Vermont Trainee Appraisers. This information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation (OPR).
Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines
If you are a Trainee Appraiser in Vermont, you will need to renew your license annually by October 31. Check the expiration date printed on your license to confirm. You should receive a renewal reminder via email 6 weeks prior to the expiration date.
Step 2: Complete CE Requirements
Vermont Trainees are required to complete 14 hours of state-approved continuing education every year, including:
- 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course (due every 2 years)
- Valuation Bias & Fair Housing CE Course (due every 2 years)
- State-approved CE course electives
Please note: The 7-hour USPAP Update course and the Valuation Bias/Fair Housing course must be completed once every 2 calendar years (every other renewal cycle).
Attention initial applicants: For CE cycle periods of less than 185 days, no continuing education is required.
Step 3: Apply for Renewal
Apply for license renewal using the Vermont OPR’s online licensing portal. You will need to pay a renewal fee with your application. You may need to provide CE course certificates as proof of completion.

Vermont Trainee Appraiser Renewal (14 hours) – State CE Requirements

Vermont Trainees are required to take 14 continuing education hours every 12 months a mandatory 7-hour USPAP course is due every 2 years.
Effective 1/1/2026
To comply with the 2026 Criteria appraisers will be required to complete a course that meets the content requirements of the Valuation Bias & Fair Housing Laws and Regulations Outline, every two calendar years.
- The first time an appraiser completes the continuing education requirement for this course, the course length must be seven (7) hours. If an appraiser successfully completed a seven (7) hour (plus 1 hour exam) course as part of their qualifying education, they have met this requirement.
- Every two calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least four (4) hours
State implementation timelines and regulatory updates may vary. Students should contact their regulatory board directly to confirm that the course is required or if they have questions.

How to Renew Your Vermont Appraiser License or Certification

Effective July 2023: Vermont real estate licensees must complete 2 hours of education relating to Vermont’s energy goals prior to the next renewal date.
