How to Renew Your Virginia Appraisal License

Here are the basic steps to renew your Virginia appraisal license. The following information is based on the minimum requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).

Step 1: Know Your Renewal Deadlines

In Virginia, real estate appraisers must renew their license every 2 years. Please check the expiration date printed on your license.

You should receive a renewal notice from the Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Board prior to expiration. If you do not receive notice, you are still responsible for renewing your license on time. If your address has changed, be sure to update it online using DPOR’s Online Services Portal or mail an Address Change Form to the Board.

Step 2: Complete CE Requirements

Virginia real estate appraisers must complete 28 hours of state-approved continuing education every 2 years, including:

Note: The Supervisor/Trainee Course for Virginia can be used for CE credit only once.

Step 3: Apply for Renewal

You may renew your real estate appraiser license online using the Virginia DPOR’s Online License Services Portal. You must pay a renewal fee and provide proof of CE course completion.

Important: Verify all CE requirements with the Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Board. If you hold appraisal licenses in multiple states, please make sure to check each state’s requirements.
