Valuation of Residential Solar
Welcome to Valuation of Residential Solar, presented by McKissock Learning.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are becoming more and more common on residential properties throughout the country. The cost of these systems has been declining, making them more affordable for property owners. Government tax breaks and manufacturer and utility company rebates have made them even more attractive as investments. If you haven’t yet encountered a solar PV system on a house you were appraising, you probably will soon.
This course will teach you the fundamentals of these systems, their component parts, and how they operate. We will address ownership interest, real versus personal property status, and solar PV trends. We will discuss the valuation of owned solar PV systems with special emphasis on the cost and income approaches, using the PV Value® tool. Finally, we will address solar PV appraisal requirements and guidelines from the GSEs, HUD, and VA.
Completion of this course is another step toward earning a certification in the appraisal of green residential properties. This certification path is designed to grow your knowledge of green building, provide you information on methods and techniques, and most importantly, enable you to competently complete an appraisal assignment on a green home.
This is a self-paced online course. You may complete it when and where you choose. You can complete it all in one sitting, if you wish, or you can complete it in bits and pieces at your convenience. There will be quizzes along the way that you must complete in order to advance to the next section.
