This course provides a comprehensive overview of the ethical and legal standards guiding professional land surveyors in Illinois. Participants will explore the foundational principles outlined in the NSPS Surveyor’s Creed and Canons, as well as key frameworks established by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), including the Model Rules and Model Law. A deep dive into the Illinois Professional Land Surveyor Act of 1989 and Public Act 93-0467 will ground learners in state-specific expectations. The course also examines surveyor liability, with particular attention to landmark legal cases such as Rozny v. Marnul and concepts like the Moorman Doctrine. Through this study, surveyors will gain a clearer understanding of their obligations to clients, the public, and third parties, equipping them to navigate professional challenges with integrity and confidence.
