Zoom has become a staple for those still operating their real estate business during the coronavirus outbreak. However, for those that are relatively new to using this platform, there might be some confusion or discomfort surrounding this essential technology. National real estate speaker and instructor Jeremias “JMan” Maneiro of JMan Seminars has some tips for how to use Zoom like a pro.
#1: Integrate Zoom With Your Calendar
Zoom comes with a multiple of integrations to make integrating zoom with your regular business functions as seamless as possible. One integration that you should definitely take advantage of is integrating Zoom with your calendar. Whether you use Google Calendar or Outlook, this Zoom integration allows you to schedule Zoom meetings with your clients or colleagues at the click of a button.
#2: Upload a Profile Picture
Zoom gives you the option of uploading a profile picture to your Zoom account which allows a picture of you to appear on people’s screens whenever you have your camera off. Without uploading a profile picture, only your name and/or a bland icon will show when your computer or mobile camera is turned off.
#3: Update Your Security Settings
You may have heard about “Zoom-bombing” in which hackers join Zoom meetings unannounced and uninvited. In order to prevent this from happening, Zoom has increased its security options. In your Settings in Zoom, you can create a meeting room password (which will only be sent to those who are invited to the meeting), create a waiting room (in which the admin will admit attendees one by one), and/or lock the meeting once it starts and everyone who was invited is in attendance. These extra precautions can help prevent these uncomfortable occurrences from happening to you.
#4: Dress for Success
Even though you may be working from home, it is important to dress as you would if you were meeting a client or business contact in person. This small step will enhance your level of professionalism exponentially.
#5: Utilize Virtual Backgrounds
If you don’t want people to have a peak inside your home office (or wherever you’re conducting your real estate business these days), using a virtual background is a great option. There are tons of free backgrounds you can find with a simple Google search (type in “Zoom background”) or by going to various brand website such as West Elm, IKEA and more.
#6: Enhance Your Appearance
If you’re looking to go the extra mile with looking your best on camera, there are a few things you can do:
- Set the camera angle straight on (not significantly above or below your face).
- Invest in a ring light (this one costs $36 on Amazon)
- Click “touch up my appearance” in your Zoom Settings
